High pt pions as probes of the dense phase of relativistic heavy ion collisions.

چکیده
The properties of pions from the hot and dense reaction stage of relativistic heavy ion collisions are investigated with the Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. Pions originating from this reactions stage stem from resonance decay with enhanced mass. They carry high transverse momenta. The calculation shows a direct correlation between high p t pions, early freeze out times and high freeze out densities. A measurement of the mass distributions of p ? correlations (e.g. the ++) in diierent p t bins is proposed to distinguish diierent reaction stages.

Energy and System-size Dependence of Two-particle Azimuthal Correlations of High-pT Charged Hadrons at the CERN SPS
Angular correlations of high-pT hadrons can serve as a probe of interactions of partons with the dense medium produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions but other sources of such correlations exist which can be non-negligible SPS energies. In an attempt to determine the primary source, NA49 has performed an energy and system-size scan of two-particle azimuthal correlations in central Pb+Pb, S...
متن کاملEnergy loss of partons traversing a QGP fluid
Measurements of high pT hadrons at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) may provide insight into a quark gluon plasma (QGP) [1]. Since jets have to traverse the excited matter, their spectra should be changed in comparison with the elementary hadron-hadron data. The energy loss of jets has been proposed as a possible signal of the QGP phase in relativistic heavy ion collisions [2]. Over t...
متن کاملHard Probes in High-energy Heavy-ion Collisions
Hard QCD processes in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions become increasingly relevant and they can be used as probes of the dense matter formed during the violent scatterings. We will discuss how one can use these hard probes to study the properties of the dense matter and the associated phenomenologies. In particular, we study the effect of jet quenching due to medium-induced energy loss o...
متن کاملElliptic Flow of Rare High-Momentum Probes in Nuclear Collisions
In high energy nuclear collisions the leading parton of a jet can change flavor through interactions with the surrounding medium. This can considerably boost the relative yield of rare high momentum particles, like strange quarks and photons. We revisit these jet conversions and discuss implications for the azimuthal asymmetry v2 of rare probes. We predict that the v2 of kaons at RHIC falls sig...
متن کاملAnomalous suppression of π 0 production at large transverse momentum in Au + Au and d + Au collisions at √ s NN = 200 GeV
We propose a model of suppression of large pT -pions in heavy ion collisions based on the interaction of the large pT pion with the dense medium created in the collision. The model is practically the same as the one previously introduced to describe J/ψ suppression. Both the pT and the centrality dependence of the data are reproduced. In deuteron-gold collisions, the effect of the final state i...
